Brew the Espresso:Brew a shot of espresso using an espresso machine. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use a very strong brewed coffee, but espresso is ideal for the traditional cappuccino.Froth the Milk:While your espresso is brewing, froth the milk. You can use a milk frother, steam wand, or even a jar with a lid.If using a frother or steam wand: Heat the milk and froth it until it’s creamy and has a good foam. Aim for a 1:1:1 ratio of espresso to steamed milk to foam.If using a jar: Heat the milk until warm (not boiling), then shake vigorously in the jar for about 30 seconds until it’s foamy.Assemble the Cappuccino:Pour the brewed espresso into a cup (typically a 6 oz cup). Then, pour in the steamed milk, holding back the foam with a spoon. Finally, spoon the foam on top of the milk, creating a nice dome of froth.Optional:If you like your cappuccino sweetened, add sugar to taste before pouring the milk or sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the foam for extra flavor.
