🥪 Ham & Cheese Toastie

Prep Time 13 minutes
Course: Breakfast
Calories: 265

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2-3 slices Ham (honey ham, smoked ham, or deli ham)
  • 1-2 slices Cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or any melting cheese
  • 1 tbsp 1 tablespoon butter (for the bread)
Optional extras
  • 1 tbsp Mustard
  • 1 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • Sliced tomato
  • A pinch of black pepper

Equipment

  • Frying pan or skillet Spatula
  • Butter knife
  • Sandwich press or grill (optional)

Method

  1. Prepare the bread:
Butter one side of each bread slice — these will be the outer sides for toasting. Spread mustard or mayonnaise on the inside if desired.
  2. Assemble the toastie:
Place one slice of bread buttered side down.
    Add a layer of cheese.
Place the ham slices evenly on top.
Add optional extras, then another layer of cheese if you like it extra melty.
Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Toast the sandwich:
Heat a frying pan over medium heat.
Place the toastie in the pan and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
If using a sandwich press, cook until crispy and fully melted.
  4. Serve:
Slice in half and enjoy your warm, cheesy, buttery toastie!

Notes

  • Use sourdough for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Try mixing cheeses (e.g., cheddar + mozzarella) for a gooier melt.
  • Consider adding caramelized onions, pickles, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • For a deluxe version, add a fried egg or a spoonful of béchamel sauce.
  • Works beautifully in an air fryer or toaster grill too.
